Dr. Rajarshi Neogi is a Psychiatry practitioner and an ardent Psychiatry teacher whose varied interests and expertise encompass almost all the domains of the sub-speciality psychiatry like Neuropsychiatry, Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Adult psychiatry, De-addiction medicine, Psychotherapy, Counselling, Sex therapy, Geriatric Psychiatry, Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry etc. He is one of the young and energetic academicians from West Bengal who has spearheaded research from this state in order to bring it to the forefront of the Psychiatric academics in India. Rajarshi had a solid educational background from his school days starting from the Ramakrishna Mission Vidyalaya till the completion of his career in one of the finest and most elite medical school of the country, the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER/PGI), Chandigarh which boasts of the Psychiatry faculty in India. He passed MBBS from R. G. Kar Medical College and had a short stint in Molecular Neuroscience research in Wilson’s Disease and Movement Disorders at the Indian Institute of Chemical Biology. He thereafter, went to PGI, Chandigarh to train in Psychiatry where he picked up his skills very well and dazzled amongst his peers. He then returned to West Bengal to teach and practice Psychiatry. He also had a short training at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences, Bangalore which he feels proud to be associated with and enjoys dropping in there. Rajarshi feels not only that the patients must be seen and taken care of by full compassion, but they also need the of the modern technology which he believes can be delivered at Kolkata itself. Rajarshi is at present working in the prestigious Institute of Psychiatry, a sister institute of the IPGME&R/SSKM Hospital. Here he is responsible for teaching post-graduate students/trainees & allied streams like M.Phil (Psychology/Psychiatric Social Work); coordinating research activities and the academics of the department. Rajarshi is a co-investigator of the National Mental Health Survey, the largest ever psychiatry epidemiology study of the world, funded by the Government of India and co-ordinated by NIMHANS, Bangalore. He is also coordinating/planning/implementing the first ever Psychiatric Epidemiology study funded by the Government of West Bengal known as the SCOPE study. Both of these studies use the latest electronic data collection system using hand-held device (Tablet) technology which can be uploaded in real-time saving cost and increasing real-time monitoring/data entry speed and accuracy. Both of these studies shall be the landmark of Indian research technology. Rajarshi is known as a very sincere and passionate clinician amongst his peers.
